How To Play With Style

How To Play With Style

As we launch into our sponsorship of RTE’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2018, sport is very much on our minds. The key to great football is a combination of skill and a sense of fun or playfulness: witness the gleeful mastery of Lionel Messi as a case in point. Great style adheres to much the same formula: practice and knowledge of your game are vital, but there’s nobody so stylish as a man who is visibly comfortable with his personal wardrobe.

Many men find it challenging to craft a considered look but the key is firmly in the detail. At Remus Uomo we’ve always found subtle changes are the way to go if you’re thinking of refreshing your style. Textures, print and patterning are the easiest avenues for a man to express himself when it comes to formal and casual wear.

Most of all, it’s important to play with your style on a regular basis. Look at a mixture of contemporary and classic styles and be adventurous with combinations of pieces when building an outfit. Our latest seersucker jacket is a nod to timeless British style combined with a minimalist grandad collar shirt to adds a note of understated sophitication to this feature fabric.

There’s nothing wrong with experimentation, even a more conservative formal suit can benefit from a dash of discreet patterning and a feature colour, this grid check suit is the perfect example of adding subtle interest to an apparent staple.

If you worry that your wardrobe is feeling a bit drab, you might want to try a flash of colour. A deep mauve or sky blue can add trending seasonal colour and make sure your personality is properly reflected by your style. Make sure you feel comfortable with what you are wearing and ask for advice from staff in store, or friends and partners if you’re making changes to your style. As a rule of thumb, if what you’re wearing feels right then you’ll likely look good too.

Finally, accessorise. Pieces like neckties, cufflinks and footwear can be the finishing touch to an outfit and the most important if you are stepping out of your fashion rut for the first time. An oxford or brogue can dress up a look and a casual leather sneaker can be paired with trousers to dress down, it’s a simple trick but can make a big difference to your overall style. Of course, when formality is the order of the day, you can still experiment with a floral or abstract print on a necktie to add colour and focus to the rest of your suit.

As we head into summer, you are bound to find yourself at weddings, garden parties and sports events and it’s important to look the part, but don’t forget to have fun with fashion this season.
